The Saanich Police Department website has 50+ pages, 350+ news articles, and is a vanity
website dedicated to providing the public and the Saanich Police Board information and media
releases. The redesign for this website was completed in 2022. - Website Accessibility
● Accessibility features including a text resizer and a language Switcher.
● Discussed goals with clients and wrote a plan for development of accessibility on the
website.
● Identified key issues in accessibility and the approach for correcting
● Ensured that colour contrast meets the WCAG AA standards on the re-designed website.

● Added Mobile responsiveness. The old website was small and hard to read on mobile. To
make sure that the website is readable on mobile versions we increased the font and
tested it on multiple devices.
● Use a semantic structure for headings and paragraphs so that the information is
organized using a screen reader and keyboard navigation.
● Keyboard and tab navigation is improved by adding a skip to content link at the top of
the page, identifying links using an outlined box was planned but the client did not feel
the outlined box was needed. Instead, all links are underlined for increased visibility.
● Added an accessibility widget so that users can customize the website to their needs,
this includes a text resizer, readable font button and a colour contrast increaser.
